Roland Wren is an active-duty US Army Special Forces Green Beret. During deployments and training, he often finds himself with nothing but a pen, a pad, and his thoughts. Having started writing as a hobby at a young age, he fell in love with the escapism, limitless discovery, and fulfillment he felt when writing. As his own life became more extraordinary and intense, so did the subjects of his stories. His unique lived experiences give his work an authentic grit, rawness, and sense of adventure that he hopes his readers enjoy.
As a first-generation immigrant, his love for other worlds, stories, and cultures began early in life. Drawing deep inspiration from his faith, his family history, and a career spent navigating the high-stakes realities of elite military service, he enjoys writing expansive fantasy rooted in moral ambiguity and strategic intrigue. His characters reflect the complex realities he has witnessed in the real world: goodness, brotherhood, heroism, and honor, balanced by moments of selfishness, darkness, and deep complexity.
A proud husband and father of young children, he views storytelling as a vital canvas for exploring the resilience and quiet heroism of the human condition, found in both grand kingdoms and everyday life. As he finds himself at the center of a world with colossal stakes, clouded unknowns, and powerful forces, he enjoys placing his characters in similar enterprises. His love for excitement, challenge, and mystery in his own life naturally pours into his work.
He lives with his family, where he continues his military service alongside his next writing project. Ultimately, he hopes to help pave a way forward for service members to express their thoughts about their service through fantasy, having found much of his own inspiration and motivation in the works of Tolkien, Lewis, Jordan, and Cook.
